Dr. Zachary Gabriel Green

 

Dr. Zachary Gabriel Green is a professor of practice in Leadership Studies at the University of San Diego.  There he teaches courses on human development, organizational behavior, mindfulness, and love. As an academic, he was a member of the founding faculty at the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership, University of Maryland.  When there Dr. Green facilitated the inaugural conferences of the International Leadership Association and was also the chief consultant to a three-year dialogue process with emerging leaders of Northern Ireland, many of whom now hold elective office in that fragile peace.  

 

As a practitioner, Dr. Green has offered training and consultation to scores of nonprofit, governmental, and corporate organizations.  His clients have ranged from multinationals such as Microsoft and Royal Dutch Shell, government agencies including the Department of Education Office of Civil Rights and arms of the intelligence community, and local nonprofits that serve the homeless, the incarcerated and disenfranchised. His international work includes 15 years as an executive coach for leaders of the World Bank.  In addition, Dr. Green has conducted service-learning tours of South Africa, dialogue between indigenous and oil concerns in Peru, training for public sectors managers in Wales, group relations conferences across Europe, and strategic development for a telecommunications group in the Caribbean. More recently, through IMAGO Global Grassroots, Dr. Green is developing a participatory co-creative model of global development in India with colleagues at MIT and the Kennedy School of Government.


As a scholar, Dr. Green is developing a body of written work in a variety of areas.  His publications are primarily in the area of leadership, identity, group behavior, and organizational analysis.  More recently he is exploring the role of human consciousness in decision-making, an integral model of peace leadership, and the interface of psychological theory with virtual reality.  Dr. Green earned his second masters as well as a doctorate in clinical psychology at Boston University, trained at Cambridge Hospital/Harvard Medical School, and was recently named to the leadership faculty at the Brookings Institution.  Dr. Green is the founder of Just Water, a small virtual organization.  This group, in alliance with the Max Foundation in the Netherlands, is responsible for inspiring programs and directly financing wells for 25 villages in Bangladesh, bringing clean and safe water to 50,000 people.
